Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Manager, the Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, design, security, performance, and continuous improvement of database environments supporting business applications, software products, integrations, analytics, and emerging technologies.

This role is best suited for a mid-level Database Administrator with hands-on experience in database administration and support.

Database Administration and Support

  • Administer and maintain database environments supporting business applications, software products, and data-driven solutions.
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database management systems and related tools in coordination with DevOps and other responsible teams.
  • Perform database maintenance, backup and recovery, monitoring, and performance reviews, and recommend improvements for database reliability and operational efficiency.

Database Design and Technical Advisory

  • Design, implement, and maintain database structures, data models, and standards, or oversee their implementation, to ensure scalability, performance, security, and data integrity.
  • Review and approve database-related designs and technical solutions of software products, integrations, and technology initiatives.
  • Serve as the department's subject matter expert and provide recommendations on database architecture, data management, and database-related technical decisions.

Performance and Optimization

  • Analyze database performance, troubleshoot database-related issues, and recommend improvements for efficiency, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Assist developers in creating efficient SQL queries, stored procedures, and database components, and in effectively using database features and resources.
  • Provide recommendations on database growth, storage utilization, indexing, query optimization, and performance requirements.

Security and Compliance

  • Implement necessary database security controls, access management, and data protection measures.
  • Support compliance, security reviews, audits, and remediation activities related to database environments.

Data Integration, Reporting and Emerging Technologies

  • Support data integration, migration, synchronization, and ETL/ELT activities to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Develop database queries and generate data extracts, technical reports, or operational reports as required.
  • Provide database expertise for analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other data-driven initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in database administration, database development, database engineering, or relevant technical roles.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar platforms.
